If anyone knows the answer to this... What in earth are the holes in the knife for other than catching pieces of bread or whatever you spread the butter on?!? Dish is great, so there's that. I may just toss the knife.I never knew there was an east coast & a west coast sized butyet?I like this because it has handles and the rubber piece on the knife keeps it from sitting on the counter when you need to set it down. However, if you're like me and keep your butter soft 24/7, the knife that comes with it is a little more annoying than helpful because the butter goes through the holes and is scraped off instead of evenly spread. I was able to slide the rubber piece off the knife provided, and slide it onto one of my butter knives so it can still be kept off the counter. It did create a small rip in the rubber piece, but I like it better with a regular butter knife, and I keep the one they provided in my silverware drawer until I need it for hard/cold butter.The dish is great. No complaints. I like the little ramps to help scoop up the butter without making a mess. Super helpful for soft butter.This is a really nice butter dish! The lid snaps on securely, the knife stays on the top, and the knife have an elevated side so butter doesn't get on the counter. It great! I would buy again!This dish is great. It keeps the butter fresher longer, easy to wipe off and clean, love the butter spreader that comes with it too. I only wish it had better grip on the counters, tends to slide around when your trying to cut even the softest butter.I returned this butter dish because it was too big to fit where I needed it and it was just bigger and bulkier than it needed to be. I just needed a small butter dish for a single quarter of butter. This one is large.
