ES EVVIVA SCIENCES Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) Powder is an excellent choice for your mycological needs. This powder is cost efficient and can produce up to 75 premium agar petri dishes. In comparison, 10 pre-poured agar plates are comparably priced. Sabouraud dextrose agar can be used to cultivate a wide range of fungal species including yeasts, molds, mushrooms and other fungi. You can use this product for mushroom mycelium cultivation or you can make petri dishes for DIY mold detection. The powder is simple to use. Simply mix 65 grams of SDA powder with 1 Liter of distilled water in an autoclave safe container (such as a thick borosilicate glass container or a polypropylene container). Autoclave the mixture at 121 degrees Celsius and at least 15 PSI for around 30 to 45 minutes. We have found that dividing the mixture into smaller containers results in more efficient sterilization. After this step, allow the mix to cool down to around 55 degrees Celsius, so that the container is comfortable to the touch and not too hot. Pour the liquid mix into empty sterile petri dishes and allow the mixture to cool and solidify for at least two hours. At this point, you can add your mycology samples to the dishes and watch your cultures grow over the next several days.
